Vertigo is a sensation of movement or spinning, tilting or swaying when your body is not actually moving. Just like a new pair of glasses (or a new denture!), there is an initial adjustment period whilst your eyes and brain accommodate to looking through something new.

It is quite common to experience headaches, dizziness or nausea to begin with, with vertigo being a rare initial side effect. This initial adjustment period can take anywhere from just a few days up to a few months depending on the sensitivity of your ciliary (eye) muscles and the frequency at which the loupes are worn. The more they are worn initially, the quicker the adjustment will be.

Once used to the new loupes and magnification, most clinicians are unable to work without!

We recommend practising with the loupes at home - using your phone with your loupes to send messages, browse the internet, play games or painting nails can be a good way to train your hand-eye coordination.
